9 अप्रैल: केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने बृहस्पतिवार को कहा था कि हिंदी की स्वीकार्यता स्थानीय भाषाओं के नहीं, बल्कि अंग्रेजी के विकल्प के रूप में होनी चाहिए. इस पर पश्चिम बंगाल कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष और सांसद अधीर रंजन चौधरी (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury) ने कहा " हम इसे स्वीकार करने के लिए तैयार नहीं हैं यह सांस्कृतिक आतंकवाद (Cultural Terrorism) है.
केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रालय द्वारा जारी एक बयान के अनुसार, शाह ने यहां संसदीय राजभाषा समिति की 37वीं बैठक की अध्यक्षता करते हुए कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने निर्णय किया है कि सरकार चलाने का माध्यम राजभाषा है और यह निश्चित तौर पर हिंदी के महत्व को बढ़ाएगा.
