4 जुलाई के जश्न के दौरान अमेरिका में शार्क के हमले में चार लोग घायल हो गए. टेक्सास गेम वार्डन कैप्टन क्रिस डाउडी ने साउथ पैड्रे आइलैंड के पास शार्क से जुड़ी चार अलग-अलग घटनाओं की जानकारी दी, जिसमें दो काटने की घटनाएं भी शामिल हैं. गुरुवार को सुबह करीब 11 बजे, साउथ पैड्रे आइलैंड पुलिस को गल्फ बुलेवार्ड के 4100 ब्लॉक के पास पैर में "गंभीर" शार्क के काटने की सूचना मिली. बीच पर जाने वाले एक व्यक्ति के फुटेज में हमले के दौरान शार्क किनारे के करीब दिखाई दी. एक अन्य व्यक्ति को काट लिया गया, एक व्यक्ति घायल हो गया और चौथा व्यक्ति शार्क से बचने के दौरान घायल हो गया.
