कांग्रेस महासचिव और संचार प्रभारी जयराम रमेश ने कहा, "ये रुझान बताते हैं कि वर्तमान (पीएम) पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री बनने जा रहे हैं. यह उनकी नैतिक और राजनीतिक हार है...ऐसा पहले कभी नहीं हुआ कि प्रधानमंत्री अपने ही निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से पीछे चल रहे हों. वाराणसी के रुझान तो बस ट्रेलर हैं...".
