इटली में माउंट एटना ज्वालामुखी में भयानक विस्फोट हुआ है. ज्वालामुखी लगातार लावा, धुआं और राख उगल रहा है, जिसकी वजह से सिसिली में कैटेनिया हवाई अड्डे को बंद करना पड़ा है.

नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर जियोफिजिक्स एंड ज्वालामुखी के अनुसार, इटली का माउंट एटना से निकले राख और धुएं का ढेर आकाश में 8 से 10 किमी तक फैल गया है.

नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर जियोफिजिक्स एंड वॉल्कैनोलॉजी के अनुसार, माउंट एटना (Mount Etna) का दक्षिण-पूर्वी क्रेटर लगातार छह महीने के सक्रिय गतिविधि के बाद ऊंचा हो गया है, जिसकी वजह से माउंट एटना इस समय यह यूरोप का सबसे ऊंचा ज्वालामुखी बन गया है.

इस ज्वालामुखी के दक्षिण-पूर्वी क्रेटर की ऊंचाई छह महीने में बढ़कर समुद्र तल से 3357 मीटर यानी 11,041 हजार फीट हो चुकी है.
