कांग्रेस से इस्तीफ़ा देने के बाद सुष्मिता देव पश्चिम बंगाल में तृणमूल कांग्रेस में शामिल हुईं. इस दौरान टीएमसी नेता अभिषेक बनर्जी और डेरेक ओ ब्रायन भी मौजूद रहे. पूर्व सांसद और महिला कांग्रेस प्रमुख सुष्मिता देव के कांग्रेस से इस्तीफा देने के कुछ घंटों बाद, वह कोलकाता गईं और सोमवार सुबह तृणमूल कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष अभिषेक बनर्जी से उनके दक्षिण कोलकाता कार्यालय में मुलाकात की.
